Stage Production and Rehearsal Spaces
From concept to curtain call. Behind every production is a team of artists, designers, and makers.
Emerson’s studios, shops, and rehearsal spaces provide the room—and the tools—to turn ideas into fully realized performances. Whether students are sketching designs, building sets, sewing costumes, experimenting with makeup, or rehearsing for their next role, these spaces bring creativity and craftsmanship together.
Design and Technology Studio
The Design and Technology Studio serves as the creative home for Theatre Design/Technology students. Located in the Tufte Performance and Production Center, the space combines drafting and rendering areas, a CAD lab, sound station, and craft space to support every stage of the design process. An adjacent 400-square-foot light lab provides a dedicated environment for lighting design instruction and experimentation.
Scene Shop
From building scenery to adding on the final details, the Scene Shop is where productions take shape. Located in the Paramount Center, the space provides dedicated areas for scenic construction, prop fabrication, stagecraft, welding, and scenic painting, supporting the hands-on work behind each performance.
Costume Shop
Located in the Tufte Performance and Production Center, the Costume Shop gives students the space and tools to bring characters to life. Home to more than 10,000 costume pieces, the shop is fully equipped to train costume designers and craftspeople, with cutting tables, industrial and domestic sewing machines, dedicated dye and craft areas, fitting rooms, and extensive costume storage.
Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Design Technology and Makeup Suite
