Analog Post-Production
Emerson College’s Analog Post-Production facilities, located on the 5th, 6th, and 8th floors of the Ansin Building, support the analog editing process. Students shoot their projects on 16mm film, and use Emerson’s carefully maintained fleet of analog post-production equipment to finish their films entirely without digital software.
Body: Emerson’s rare, fully-functional collection of 13 Steenbecks, 2 Mag Dubbers, and a Magnasync Interlock projection room continues to dazzle and inspire hundreds of young artists to make 16mm films by hand, with intention and precision. The Analog Post Lab gives students the unique opportunity to experience hands-on analog technology, instilling them with a sense of patience, meticulousness, and creativity that they carry with them for the rest of their lives.
16mm Analog Film Resources
The resources available for 16mm post-production include:
- Thirteen Steenbeck flatbed editors
- One Oxberry Animation/Title Stand
- Two J-K Optical Printer Systems
- Two 16mm Magnetic Sound Transfer Mag Dubbers
- A rare Magnasync Interlock projection room (which plays synced reels of 16mm picture and magnetic sound)
- One experimental animation room
