Student Organizations
Student organizations at Emerson College are more than extracurricular activities—they’re places where you’ll find community, explore your interests, build leadership skills, and make Boston feel like home. With opportunities spanning the arts, media, culture, advocacy, performance, communication, recreation, and student government, Emerson’s student orgs allow you to connect with peers who share your passions while discovering new ones along the way. Whether you join an established group, take on a leadership role, or create something entirely new, getting involved outside the classroom is a vital part of the full Emerson experience.
Cultural Organizations
By participating in Emerson’s cultural organizations, you’ll celebrate your own identity while learning about the experiences and traditions of others through events, performances, celebrations, and outings. Groups such as Asian Students in Alliance (ASIA), Flawless Brown, Amigos Organización Latina, and Emerson’s Black Organization with Natural Interest (E.B.O.N.I.) help foster community, connection, and belonging across campus. Emerson’s fraternities and sororities offer opportunities to socialize, form meaningful connections, and make a positive impact through volunteer and philanthropic work.
Make ’Em Laugh
Looking to sharpen your comedic timing? At Emerson, you’ll find no shortage of opportunities to land the punchline. Comedy organizations such as Emerson Comedy Workshop, Chocolate Cake City, A Goose Troupe, and several other troupes give you the chance to perform, write, direct, and produce a wide range of comedy, including improv, sketch, live shows, videos, and long- and short-form performances. Emerson’s rich comedy tradition is legendary: our alumni include acclaimed comedians and actors such as Denis Leary ’79, Bill Burr ’92, and Iliza Shlesinger ’05.
Hands-On Media Experience
Through student organization opportunities like The Emerson Channel, Emerson Channel Sports, Good Morning Emerson, The EVVY Awards, The Common Collective, Emerson Independent Video (EIV), and radio stations WECB and WERS, you can gain hands-on experience producing television, podcasts, documentaries, films, and live radio. Whether you’re launching original content, covering live events, or broadcasting to audiences across Greater Boston and around the world, you’ll build a portfolio and gain relevant, real-world skills from day one.
Writing For Every Interest
At Emerson, there’s a platform for every voice. You can report for the award-winning student newspaper The Berkeley Beacon; explore style, wellness, and culture through Atlas Magazine; cover the film industry with The Independent Magazine—including opportunities to report from international events like the Cannes Film Festival—or write for Her Campus Emerson, a publication created by and for women. As an aspiring fiction writer or editor, you can also contribute to Stork Magazine, a student-run literary magazine dedicated to short stories and flash fiction.
Co-Curriculars
Some of Emerson’s most impactful co-curricular experiences are also student-run organizations that allow you to earn academic credit while building professional skills. Through opportunities such as The Berkeley Beacon, the College’s award-winning student newspaper; WEBN, a student-run news organization whose reporters travel to cover major events such as the New Hampshire and Iowa presidential primaries; and the nationally recognized Emerson Speech & Debate Team, which has earned championships on the world stage, you’ll gain hands-on experience that extends far beyond the classroom.
Professional Orgs
You can start building your professional network and gaining real-world experience from your first year at Emerson through student organizations tied directly to your career interests. Gain hands-on marketing experience with the student-run EC Agency, connect with peers through the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), explore communication sciences and disorders through the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, engage with any and all of our print, broadcast, or digital media organizations, participate in the Communications, Politics, and Law Association, and more. You’ll find ample opportunities to develop skills, make industry connections, and explore potential career paths.
Performance Groups
There are more than 100 performance-based student orgs to showcase your talents outside the classroom. You can learn K-pop choreography with EKStone Dance Crew, perform with any of our five a capella groups, or take the stage with the Musical Theatre Society, which produces multiple student-led productions each year.
