Applying as a Veteran
On This Page
Emerson is proud to welcome veterans, active-duty service members, and military families to our community. We recognize the unique experience and perspective you bring, and we’re committed to making your transition from military to collegiate life as smooth as possible.
How to Apply
Veterans should follow the same application process as either first-year students or transfer students, depending on their background.
Apply as a first-year student if you:
- Enrolled full-time at another college but withdrew before the school’s add/drop deadline
- Attended college part-time after high school and earned eight or fewer college credits
- Earned college credits before graduating from high school (e.g. dual-enrollment programs)
Apply as a transfer student if you:
- Are currently enrolled full-time at another college
- Attended college part-time after high school and earned nine or more college credits
Please note, veterans may request a waiver of the $70 application fee. To request a waiver, email admission@emerson.edu with your full name and proof of service. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Apply as a Transfer Student
Emerson is approved to certify several types of VA educational benefits. Please note that veterans benefits cannot be used for courses taken at Emerson’s Los Angeles location or for study abroad programs—Emerson is not authorized by the VA to certify enrollment at these satellite locations.
For full details on available benefit types, how to apply, and what to expect once enrolled, visit our Veterans Affairs and Resources office.
