Where Sports Meets Strategy, Storytelling, and Leadership

The Emerson Sports Communication undergraduate program prepares you to lead in any arena in the world of sports. Our industry expert-designed curriculum will help you build a career across the rapidly evolving world of sports.

You’ll learn to communicate for and about teams and leagues, and to create powerful programs that bring together teams, brands, athletes, and fans. Create your major from tracks in sports leadership and management, public relations, event planning, and community engagement, along with digital storytelling, content creation, and more.

When you study Sports Communication at Emerson, you gain real-world experience in the sports world. You’ll get the chance to work on assignments for Boston’s professional sports teams, gain experience with organizations like the Worcester Red Sox, and travel to cities like Barcelona to study the role of sports in communities around the world and work with organizations like FC Barcelona.

Best of all: you’ll graduate with a standout portfolio, real-world experience, and a network of industry insiders to help you launch your career.

Sports Communication students have access to Boston’s thriving sports scene, as well as Emerson College’s own athletics and student-run sports programs.

Home to 14 NCAA Division III teams, the Emerson Lions compete in basketball, baseball, cross country, soccer, tennis, and more. With the student-run Common Collective, you’ll work with other students from across Emerson to live-stream pre-game shows and championships, produce podcasts, and play-call. You’ll learn to tell the stories that engage fans, move audiences, and build communities.

Sports Communication in Barcelona

Study how sports, media, and culture intersect on a global level. During Spring Break and summer sessions, students can travel to Barcelona for an immersive Sports Communication and Global Public Relations workshop with global industry leaders through the Emerson-Blanquerna Center for Global Communication. You’ll attend sporting events and learn from leaders in sports management, sports diplomacy, and international communication. Learn from top professionals at FC Barcelona and Barcelona Olympics historians.

Global Communications in Sydney and Sports Diplomacy in Rosarito

As a Sports Communication major, you can study Global Communication and Leadership during winter session in Sydney, Australia, and Sports Diplomacy and Digital Storytelling in a two-week summer workshop in Rosarito, Mexico.

Sports Leadership in Los Angeles

At Emerson’s Los Angeles campus, you can spend a semester interning with an LA team, or three weeks in the summer studying digital storytelling and sports, leadership, and culture while engaging with teams, leagues, and global sporting events in the city. Immersive experiences take you to Dodger Stadium, the Rose Bowl, and the LA Coliseum.

Sports, Politics, and Advocacy in Washington, DC

During the Emerson DC semester, you can study sports, politics, and advocacy while interning full-time in the nation’s capital.
