Become a Global Creative
Film is shaped by experiences, places, cultures, and communities.. Emerson’s Global BFA in Film Art combines filmmaking, contemporary art, and international study through a joint degree with Paris College of Art (PCA). Designed for students who want to explore visual storytelling from a global perspective, the program blends production, critical studies, and artistic experimentation, immersing students in some of the world’s most influential creative environments with convenient access to major cultural institutions and resources.
You’ll spend three academic years living and studying in Paris, while completing summer residencies in Boston and the Netherlands. The program challenges and enables you to work across a range of formats: short films, experimental videos, gallery installations, audio, web series, and more. In the classroom you’ll study filmmaking, fine art, media studies, cultural history, and critical theory.
Produce films with professional, industry-standard equipment, explore Paris’s museums and artistic communities, and connect with filmmakers. By the time you graduate, you’ll have a portfolio of film and media projects, international production experience, a global network of collaborators, and expanded perspectives on how different cultures shape art.
Make Art Where It Happens
Create impactful art. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art film equipment and studio spaces, numerous art museums and galleries in Paris and Boston, and other historic places from which to draw inspiration. Work alongside others in the program to form a tight-knit creative community and see your projects come to life.
- Take advantage of professional film equipment, studio spaces, art supplies, and world-class museums and libraries.
- Paris College of Art offers access to 3D labs, ceramics studios, printmaking spaces, darkrooms, audio recording and mixing, film and photography studios, and much more.
- Access Emerson’s renowned media and filmmaking facilities, including the Digital Production Labs and Editing suites, the Film Digital and Analog Post-Production suites, and more.
You’ll work closely with your peers in the program, forming a collaborative bond that enriches everyone’s work.. You’ll form a cohort with others in the program who take the same courses as you. While assisting others with their art and film projects, you’ll also explore cultural venues such as museums and cinemas while taking in the culture of Paris together. The program also offers guided visits to major cultural events, such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). Upper-level students will help you navigate the first year of the program, show you how to strengthen your skills, and share insights and advice on how to thrive and succeed.
- Paris College of Art (PCA): Spend each academic year in Paris, studying and creating film art.
- Kasteel Well, Netherlands: Live and create in Emerson’s 14th-century castle. Visit historic museums, reflect and refine your voice, and prepare for capstone work.
- Boston: Finalize and screen your work, prepare festival submissions, and transition into the industry.
