Become a Modern-Day Creative

Create work that reflects your artistic ideas and explores the world of contemporary media. Emerson’s Film and Media Art MFA combines creative practice, critical inquiry, and technical production across film, video, audio, installation, and interactive media. Learning from faculty who are career artists, you’ll develop expertise in a range of media types and find your artistic vision.

Housed in the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts, the 60-credit program offers advanced standing path to select students, allowing you to complete the program in two to three years. Using state-of-the-art production facilities and collaborating with a diverse community of creators, you’ll produce an evolving body of work that culminates in a strong portfolio; meaningful creative partnerships; and the skills needed to pursue careers across film, media arts, and related creative fields.

The Film and Media Art MFA program boasts a faculty who are working artists and filmmakers, including Oscar- and Emmy-award winners, and Guggenheim and Fulbright fellows. Our instructors have spent their careers in the creative industry, pushing the boundaries of art and film.

Applicants must register for an account with the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts. From there, you’ll log in and upload application materials, including samples of past work. The program can be completed in 2.5 to 3 years for select students who qualify for advanced standing. No GRE is required to apply.
