Learn the business of the business of the creative industries. After all, behind any film, album, play, TV show, or music tour is a team of collaborative professionals, managers and leaders who get these productions off the ground. If you’re somebody who lives for behind-the-scenes magic and making ideas a reality, Emerson College’s Business of Creative Enterprises program is for you.
At a Glance
- From day one, you’ll be studying the creative economy, collaboration, finance, aesthetics, economics, and marketing, both in the classroom and with opportunities to work in the field alongside your peers and faculty.
- Learn from faculty across creative disciplines—from Marketing Communication, Performing Arts, and Communication Studies to Writing, Literature and Publishing and the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts.
- During your Senior Residency experience, you’ll help real clients with their marketing, branding, and community engagement efforts.
- Opportunities to work at Emerson College’s student-run marketing agency, EC Agency or live, study and intern through our program experience at ELA
Produce Moments That Matter
Emerson’s Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) major in the Department of Strategic Marketing & Business is a first-of-its-kind program designed for students who are passionate about business in the arts, media, and communication, and want to learn how creative industries operate, grow, and innovate. Drawing on courses and faculty from across Emerson, BCE combines business fundamentals with hands-on exploration of the creative economy.
Throughout the program, you’ll study marketing, finance, economics, collaboration and leadership, all while working alongside your peers and with faculty from across campus. Most importantly, you’ll learn how ideas move from concept to execution. You’ll master the business models today’s most creative organizations use, how audiences engage with media and culture, and understand how to navigate industries where creativity and commerce intersect.
By your senior year, you’ll put your whole skillset into practice with BCE Senior Residency. Working in teams with real-world industry clients, you’ll analyze the client’s organizationt hrough the lenses of revenue, marketing strategy, organizational structure, ethics, and culture. The experience will challenge you to think like a consultant, manager, and creative leader. By graduation, you’ll leave with real-world analytical experience, a portfolio of projects, a network of collaborators, and the business savvy to help shape the future of creative enterprises.

- Study the finance, aesthetics, economics, and marketing behind creative enterprises, both in the classroom and through opportunities in the field.
- Work with student-run organizations like Emerson Fashion Society, The EVVY Awards, Crown Studios, and more.
- Network with alumni who have established careers with production companies, fashion brands, nonprofits, advertising agencies, and more.
Dive right into your career as a creative producer. BCE students have the opportunity to work directly in the creative industries and gain real-world experience from day one through co-curriculars and student-led productions.
- Become a client-focused marketing expert with Emerson’s student-run marketing agency, EC Agency.
- Act as the liaison between leadership and students in the BCE program and gain community-building experience through the BCE Ambassador Program.
- Explore opportunities with our Global Pathways Programs to refine your marketing and production skills in a brand-new environment.
As a BCE student, you’ll have the opportunity to fulfill an internship in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the US. Emerson Los Angeles (ELA) students can enroll in an academic internship and earn credits toward their degree. Recent ELA interns have worked at production studios, television networks, and helped run national TV shows like Conan.
Artistic Direction on the Global Stage: Experiencing Santiago A Mil
Help produce one of the largest theatre festivals in the world, Chile’s Santiago A Mil festival. Attracting millions of visitors over the years, the festival highlights groundbreaking works that comment on social and cultural issues happening in the world today. Work alongside the team that puts this festival together, speak with performers and organizers, and learn the business side of festival production.
Germany: Media Management & Problem Solving
Spend two weeks in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, Germany, learning how to solve strategic marketing and media challenges. You’ll explore the cultural, political, and economic forces that shape the ways large organizations across Europe do business. You’ll work with real companies, using real-time data to help create a cohesive brand story and connect with audiences.
