Office of Research and Creative Scholarship (ORCS)
The Office of Research and Creative Scholarship (ORCS) serves the Emerson community by assisting faculty and staff in all aspects of obtaining and managing external funding for their research, scholarship, and creative work.
ORCS offers guidance and services for finding funding opportunities, developing competitive grant applications, maintaining compliance throughout a grant’s lifecycle, and coordinating other resources to support faculty work.
Emerson also supports faculty research, scholarship, and creative practice through several internal funding programs, including research and creative project grants, interdisciplinary collaboration awards, course release fellowships, graduate research assistantships, curricular innovation grants, and distinguished faculty awards. Together, these programs provide resources for faculty at all career stages to advance innovative work and pursue new opportunities.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The College also maintains an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to review research involving human subjects and ensure compliance with federal regulations as well as College policies and ethical standards for protecting research participants. Members of the Emerson community planning to conduct human subjects research are required to submit an IRB application before beginning any recruitment, data collection, or participant interaction.
